Ages ago I bought some packs of Stone Mountain Miniatures 10mm ACW and Napoleonics from a hobby store in London, ON.
These were some of the most difficult figs I've ever had to work with. Not only were the sculpts fiddly and hard to paint, but they were individually mounted. Painting them was like painting 15mm, but at about half the size! Playing with them was painful, too, since they prove tricky to handle.
In the end, I decided to base them 'chess piece' style, with large, oversized bases. This worked, and doesn't look too bad to my eye.
I started with the ACW (North & South), and I've been gaming with them successfully ever since.
The Nappies were another story. The packs were French and Prussian, but not enough of either, and I could never find anything to match them with (Stone Mountain is, I believe, out of business). So, into deep storage they went, fully painted.
Recently, though, it occurred to me that they might make a pretty fair Mexican army for the Mexican-American War. I bought the appropriate campaign book from Osprey and found that, given the scale, the uniforms matched up pretty well (given a few modifications -- the flags need some touching up).
The result is what you see here.
As for the US forces: some of the aforementioned Prussian landwehr pass off as US infantry pretty well. As for the rest? Well, I'll just have to indulge in some shamefaced swapping and switching, subbing in ACW Union types, and hope that I can get away with it given the scale.
It is what it is, and it gets that collection out of the deep freeze!
